In this day and age, the world seems to have discovered how difficult it can really be to lose weight. It can often seem as though you can gain a lot of weight in a short amount of time that it takes months to work off. So many people get so discouraged in this uphill battle that they simply give up. But the world of science is hard at work trying to make it easier for you to attain this difficult goal. While there is no magic solution to this problem, there are things that can make it a little easier to deal with, such as hoodia gordonii.

Better known simply as hoodia, hoodia gordonii is a succulent plant that grows in Southern Africa, and is well-known to the bushmen in the area. The reason that it first came into the eye of the scientific community is that these bushmen would use it to suppress their appetites on long hunting trips, allowing them to go for longer without food. Scientists became interested in the possibility of using hoodia as an appetite suppressant for people trying to lose weight. If people could go longer and continue working longer without feeling hungry, they might be able to lose more weight at a faster rate.

While scientific tests on hoodia gordonii are still inconclusive at the time, many people are already claiming success with hoodia supplements. While it is not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use as an appetite suppressant, it is still available over the counter, since it is an herbal remedy. The FDA also warns that it could have an adverse effect on the liver, so it should be used in moderation and with caution and careful monitoring to make sure that the use of this supplement isn’t adversely affecting other parts of your body.

While the use of hoodia gordonii as an appetite suppressant isn’t quite considered kosher just yet, it just may provide a hope for the hopeless. It may be the edge you need to be able to get a grip on your weight loss and have the hope to motivate you to keep pursuing your goal. Sometimes, a little hope can be a powerful thing; it can keep you going when nothing else can. Knowing that you have help in your corner can keep you on the right track until you reach your goal.
